AYYAPPA YAJANAM
Overcome Shani Dosha
Lord ayyapan is said to be the son of Lord Vishnu and Lord Shiva. Lord Ayyappan is also known as lord shaneeswara and as the presiding deity over the planet shani, according to some beliefs. Hence, it is believed that appeasing lord ayyappa will ensure protection from all effects of shani dosha. It is often difficult for people to perform major poojas or visit temples in a regular basis.
What is the significance of Irumudi?
The actual journey to Sabarimala or completion of Vratham commences with the Pallikettu or Irumudi kattu ceremony in which the pilgrim fills with utmost devotion, a drained and dried coconut with ghee (clarified butter) as guided by Guruswami. The drained and dried coconut represents the human mind removed of all impurities and pouring of ghee symbolizes the unimpaired flow of jiva, the individual soul, to Lord Ayyappa through the devotee's Love for Him.
